Trail Info and Review
The Womble is a beautiful and diverse 37 mile long mountain biking trail that is not a loop (save the Roundtop 8 mile loop). The trail takes 4 + days one way to complete for the normal biker. We were there for a week and barley made a dent in the trail as all our rides were in and out. We had to stop our ride near Mauldin Mountain due to water availability. To help plan your rides we have included a water availability section below. Some businesses offer shuttle service.

Caution near the top of the climb near "Fisherman's Village" there is about a 200 foot drop. Be sure to check hunting times.

Primitive Campsites Info as of 10/2012

Due to flooding most of the primitive campsites located in the float camps and/or trail heads are temporarily closed to camping (day use is allowed). The only trail head open to camping is at North Fork Lake. However, according to the National Forest Service one is not prohibited from primitive camping any place along the 37 mile Womble trail, the challenge is finding flat ground that's near water. Prim camping near Fisherman's Village off of hwy 27 was a no-go as the place was too trashed-out from sloppy campers.

29 RV/Tent with water & electric. Location: From Mt Ida, go north on Highway 27 approximately 4.7 miles. Turn right on highway 188 heading east. Drive approximately 8 miles to the Little Fir Resort entrance. Turn right into campground. Campsite Information: Concrete table, ground grill, pedestal grill, lantern post, water hook-up, shade. Amenities: Flush toilets, boat ramp, fish cleaning station, trailer dump station, group camp and no shower. User's fee charged. Information booth (870)867-4474.

In Albert Pike a Bear was sited by park host at deer feeder in 2009.
In 2004 a bear in Glennwood was habituated due to campers leaving food at campsite for several weeks.
There was also a problem with a bear due to a family leaving a freezer on their porch, which the bear enjoyed.

Other Facilities / Cabins

We stayed at and highly recommend Kelloms Country Cabins Martha Kelloms Phone: 501-282-6520 hwy 88 (near the Dragover Trail Head) Sims, AR 71969

Why Kelloms?
1. Great pricing.
2. Very, very short but nice trail on property.
3. The most centrally located accommodations for mountain biking the Womble.
4. No noisy neighbors.
5. 6.5 miles from Womble trail head on hwy 298.
6. 1 mile from Dragover trail head.
7. The Kelloms Country Cabins are family owned by the Kelloms.
8. If lucky, you may be greeted by the smartest, most lovable dog named "Bible".
9. The Kelloms went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed including helpful tips, tons of brochures, trail info, chamber info and maps. They checked in on us regularly to make sure there wasn't anything we needed.

Below are a few photos of the cabin we stayed in:

There were only two other cabin facilities that took the time to answer our questions or met our (near Womble trail head requirement). Here is their info.

2.5 miles from the Womble North Fork Lake trail head. Cabins only no tents on property. The cabins are completely equipped with everything you need besides food and charcoal for the grill. All cabins either have a hot tub outside or a jacuzzi tub inside. T.V. with satellite, A/C and heat. Cabins are on 117 + acres and all of the cabins are spaced out with trees in between; turned at different angles so you do have your privacy. Parties are not allowed to insure a quite visit for all. A peaceful place in the woods with different wildlife around. NO bears! "We have been here for 15 years and never seen a bear on our property". Phone # is 870-326-4630.
