Primitive Campsites

You must hike 1 mile on a very easy trail to reach a very roomy hike-in primitive camp site along the river. You may not be able to see the river from every campsite due to the trees.

3. Take the 2nd right onto TX-121 / E TX-121. 0.5 mi
4. Merge onto TX-121-TOLL S / Sam Rayburn Tollway via the ramp on the left 9.0 mi
5. TX-121-TOLL S / Sam Rayburn Tollway becomes TX-121 S. 20.6 mi
6. Keep left to take TX-121 S via EXIT 24B toward Downtown Ft Worth.7.1 mi
7. Merge onto I-35W S via the exit on the left toward US-377 S / Waco. 14.5 mi
8. Merge onto TX-174 S via EXIT 37 toward Cleburne.13.4 mi
(Note this takes you through town were you can only go 40 mph and the name of the street changes a few times, just keep going toward Cleburn and all will be well)
9. Turn right onto W Katherine P Raines Rd / Loop 367.0.2 mi
10. Merge onto US-67 S.38.1 mi
11. Turn slight left onto TX-220.13.5 mi
12. Turn slight right onto TX-6 / E 2nd St.0.3 mi
13. Turn left onto Walnut St / US-281. Continue to follow US-281. 50.2 mi
14. Turn right onto FM-581 West. Continue to follow FM-581 West. 17.0 mi
15. Turn left onto N 7th St / FM-581. 0.3 mi
16. Take the 3rd right onto E Main St / FM-581. Continue to follow FM-581. 3.2 mi
17. Keep left at the fork to continue on FM-581. 6.6 mi
18. Turn right onto FM-580.
Total Travel Estimate: 203.20 miles - about 3 hours 50 minutes

The park is west of Lampasas, southeast of San Saba. From the intersection of U.S. Highways 281 and 183 in Lampasas, take FM 580 west 24 miles to Bend and follow the signs 4 miles to the park entrance. From San Saba, take U.S. Highway 190 about 4 miles to FM 580 and follow the signs 13 miles to Bend; follow the signs 4 miles to the park entrance (2 miles of dirt road). The headquarters and main camping are 6 miles past the entrance on the dirt road (unmarked County Road 442). (Access road subject to flooding.)
